In short, it looks like you?ll need to convert MP3 files to ATRAC3 using Sony?s software in order to transfer them to the NW-HD1 and play them back. You have to admire Sony?s persistence, if nothing else.


This was one of the things I found most annoying about Sony’s NetMD minidisc players: to transfer anything to a minidisc, you had to convert it to ATRAC with the supplied software.

Not only did it take fricken ages, any audiophile will tell you that converting from one lossy format (mp3) to another (atrac) is an absolute no-no.
