Rolling robots

Rolling robotWow, this is very cool. A robot that uses shape-memory alloys to change its shape and generate forward motion. I like it.

“The rolling robots perform well on flat surfaces and can even scale 20-degree slopes. By flattening itself as much as possible and then pinging back to a circular shape – driven by the elasticity of the outer rim – a robot can leap 8 centimetres into the air. The engineers say that by combining three wheels in a mutually perpendicular arrangement, it should be possible to build a ball-shaped, steerable robot.”

  1. I am looking for some small toy robots that I saw years ago. Specifically, one that could walk hand over hand across a wire or taught string. There were other types as well.

Do you know where I could locate these types of robot. Your walking wheel really looks neat.
